In order to secure an on-campus job at Skyline College, a student must be enrolled at either Skyline College, Cañada College, or CSM. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more units during the Fall and Spring semesters, and 3 or more units during the Summer session.

To apply for Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions, you must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, have completed a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the school year, and have received a Federal Work-Study offer. FWS – ESL Connect Student Assistant

Position Description ESOL Student Support duties include:

  • Answer student questions to orient Nonnative English speaker to a ESL Connect and campus services (in-person or via zoom)
  • Assist new student in applying in WebSmart, CCCApply and scheduling for placements test and referring them to orientation and registration process and provide a copy of appointment reminders
  • Assist Program Services Coordinator and ESL counselor in walking students over to building 2 (admissions, testing, financial aid) and ensure that they receive services needed
  • Assist students in applying for FAFSA and referring them to financial aid resources on the website or on building 2
  • Assist with setting up the direct deposit for FAFSA & FAFSA payment plan
  • Assist with the Board of Governors Fee Waiver and follow up
  • Refer new and continuing students to student support services and walk them to the building location only as needed

Requirements/Desirable Skills
  • This is a Federal Work Study position and applicants must be eligible

Language Skills:

  • We need someone who can also speak Spanish or Chinese or Burmese
  • Able to provide warm and positive customer service to nonnative English speaking students (In-person or phone)
  • A strong interest in helping nonnative English speaking students access
    needed campus services
  • Ability and willingness to provide students ( one-on-one) hand’s on support with Skyline College’s enrollment process and accessing student services
  • Ability to research and learn different Skyline student resources useful for needs of ESOL students
  • Cross cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse students from different countries and backgrounds

Clerical skills:

  • Reliable and detail oriented and organized
  • Must have solid Google Suites and MS office skills and Zoom functions
  • Ability to keep confidentiality when handling sensitive information
  • Ability to learn new database system and has solid data entry skills
  • Preferred: Knowledge of financial aid
