Position Description
Under the supervision of Program Services Coordinators, the Student Assistant (SA) assist the DE Team in tasks such as:

  • Onboarding 9th-12th grade students through the application and registration process for Skyline College
  • Clerical duties such as updating, maintaining and processing confidential student files, spreadsheets, and information
  • Meeting regularly with DE Team to discuss, plan, and report on activities and assignments
  • Attending all mandatory monthly trainings, workshops, and programs
  • Assisting with making logistical arrangements for the DE program and other SPWD division related tasks/events/activities as assigned by staff
  • Communicating to students about the many opportunities and benefits of enrolling at Skyline College
  • Sharing information about early college programs such as: Dual Enrollment, Concurrent Enrollment and Middle College
  • Assisting students with the Student Success Link (SSL) consent process to allow for registration in Dual Enrollment courses
  • Representing Skyline College at high schools, on campus and in the greater community. Events included but not limited to: staffing information tables, campus tours, high school career and college fairs, and application workshops
  • Follow-up with potential students who have applied to Dual Enrollment but have not registered
  • Taking initiative to be knowledgeable about college programs (e.g. College certificates, associate degrees, transfer services, honors program, etc.) and services (e.g. Financial aid, Promise Scholars Program, EOPS, ASCC, Puente, SparkPoint, STEM Center etc.)
  • Maintaining working relationships with college departments that participate in recruitment and outreach efforts
  • Assisting in the collaboration and distribution of college/recruitment materials such as catalogs, schedules, enrollment forms, and promotional items
  • Participating in bi-weekly staff meetings and mandatory training
  • Maintaining professional uniformed attire when actively serving as a Student Ambassador
  • Preparing promotional materials which will include lifting objects of up to 35lbs
Requirements and Desirable Skills MUST be able to work 5-6 hour block between the hours of 8AM-3PM AT LEAST 2 days a week; Monday-Friday and occasional late afternoons. Hours are flexible and varied. Since our work revolves around the schedules and needs of the schools we serve, the number of work hours available will depend on the availability of the Student Assistants; we cannot guarantee a minimum number of work hours per week.

  • Customer Service Friendly and Student-First Forward attitude
  • Must be dependable, proactive, have strong presentation and oral/written communication skills
  • Must be able to multitask and work independently with minimum supervision and maintain effective work relationships
  • Must have general office computer skills, including fluency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Drive, Doc, Sheets, Slides) and Zoom
  • General record keeping of confidential files and data management practices
  • Must have knowledge of matriculation to the Community College and other segments of higher education
  • Communication skills in a second language is desirable
  • Skills to perform administrative and customer service-related tasks
Hours Required Minimum of 5 hours per shift, minimum of 2 days per week, 12-20 hours per week, shifts are between 8:30- 3:30
